Positive Thinking and Self Talk

 

 

Positive thinking and self talk are closely related although you can be a positive thinker (about others and external events) without having positive self talk. Self talk is the endless conversations we have with and about ourselves inside our head.

 

Much of our self talk is negative and this can totally undermine us in reaching our goals.

 

You might be thinking positively about exercising, eating right and losing 10 pounds or more. Within hours, days or weeks, your plan starts to fall apart and the negative self talk begins. You tell yourself you will never succeed, you are lazy, have no self discipline or are stupid.

 

Positive thinking goes out the window when the negative self talk starts. Your self talk needs to support positive thinking.

 

Positive thinking and self talk can be learned. You can change the way you think and the way you talk to yourself. Positive thinking and self talk are probably two of the most important tools you can learn to change your life for the better.
